The DSLR

by mott on January 17, 2012

I’ve had my DSLR oh..for… a number of years now. Will not say, because it’s just a tad embarrassing as I’m about to reveal something.

I never learnt to use it properly.

I have bought and borrowed books on the functions of using the DSLR.. but somehow, it never stuck to me. It would swim in my head. But I still could not understand how to manipulate each setting to suit the photo opportunity. More than often, I’d just stick to the Auto *gasp!* or…. the “No-Flash” Auto *faints*.

Hey..it’s not like a PC Tablet..where you can easily use your fingers and nothing absolutely goes wrong. Well.. most of the time anyway. With a DLSR, if I fidgeted with one of the functions, all hell breaks loose, because suddenly you can’t take a picture. Either too dark or too bright, or too whatever.

In fact, I kinda abandoned using the DLSR for awhile, because I was just .. tired. The iPhone seemed pretty easy to use. Why not? Especially when you inserted filters in them, suddenly everything looks so… artsy-fartsy.

Until, a few weeks ago, when my young 13 year old cousin asked me how to take a shot with her DLSR. DANG!

I… acted professionally by taking her camera, and fiddled with the ISO. Mumbled something about increasing her ISO to allow more light in. Or whatever.

It somehow worked.

I was like.. what?

Shit. You mean I know this shit?

It like as if, my synapses (or whatever that connects our brain cells) suddenly connected all the dots.

And just like that.. I knew how to use the “M”, “A”, “S”, “P” modes. And I’m enjoying it now.

Who knew.. balancing out all those buttons would give you great shots.

HAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHH!!!!
