Dad the DIY Man

by mott on August 18, 2009

Before we married, Mr.T was very surprised to learn that I learnt many a thing from my dear ol dad. My dad firmly believes he can fix anything. Well, anything except any electrical item. This wise man doesn’t want to get electrocuted. Heh.

From a very young age, I’d observe him and imitate him. I took apart my radio, just to see how I can repair it. Problem was, it wasn’t even broken. But it was, after that! Heh..

Anyway, just before Mr.T came, dear ol dad skyped me urgently and told me to look for some zinc roller spare part, at an industrial supplies shop. He took several pictures, and purposely drove to Mr.T’s family home, just to make sure that I would get it.

Not wanting to displease the ol man, I went to the shop. But, no such thing. I emailed him thereafter and he had already googled the manufacturer and gave me the address. Now, luckily, it was located only 30 minutes from my home. So, I wasn’t too chuffed driving all the way. When I got it, I was really excited and started calling him. Yes..this is some roller zinc spare part, which broke and I bought 2 pairs of it (left and right). Imagine, his delight when I told him I have it right in my hands. And dad, being dad, asked me several times, “Are you sure it’s the same one?”. I had to repeatedly reassure him that I have the broken one in my hand and have compared it to the new ones.

When Mr.T flew home, that very same day, he purposely drove to my dad’s home..knowing how ‘urgent’ it was for my dad to fix it (I think I inherited this OCD disease from him) and passed it to him.

How I wish I was there to witness the joy in his face, when he saw those zinc parts. Sigh… he’s done many things for me..and I’m just glad to do this one small thing for him.
