I find that being a chinese, I’d always try to stretch the ‘longevity’ of a product. And, it’s not only me! My parents would do the same thing. If we buy a brand new item, we’d wrap it up in some plastic sheet/cover. Yes.. that could mean a sofa or a remote control. As if we were trying to preserve it. I sometimes ask myself, who am I preserving it for?
I mean, take my brand new spanking BBQ set. We got it for a very good deal, and I cured it (i.e, to say, seasoned it), and got it ready to BBQ our lamb chops. What did I do? I placed several aluminium sheets on the grill, just before I barbeque-ing those chops. See? I was just trying to keep it brand new. I even have a TV, that I shipped from Msia. I am kinda dumb..considering all those LCD/Plasma tv deals now available. *sobs*
In fact, my hubs said the other day, “Look…we’re ‘consumers’, we should just consume things! Instead of trying to preserve them!”. Hmm.. I suppose, I can then chuck this TV..and get a new one?
Nah… I’m just too CHINESE! It still works perfectly!

I’ve seen people who has used his/her new car for 3 or 4 years, the plastic covering the cushion is still there. Actually it’s not comfy with the plastic there leh, but I understand they’re trying to protect it…
