Review : Swaddlebees All-in-One Diapers

by mott on August 20, 2008

As some of you know, I made a decision to use reusable diapers, not only for a greener earth but also due to economic factors. As it is, one box of 128 Huggies diapers costs me about AUD51+, from a direct factory outlet..and it hurts everytime I have to dish out some dosh for it, because one box only lasts for one month!

I did a little bit of online homework…yes, just a little bit, due to time constraints, and found that most mums reviewed Swaddlebees Snap All-in-One diapers to be a perfect solution for night sleeps. I thought that this would help me greatly, as I am often in a slumber mode during those wee-hours-in-the-morning changes.

Anyway, one of the first things I had to do was to wash it 3-4 times, with drying times in between. Apparently, this makes the top layer fabric to fluff up and be more absorbent. It took me about a week to do this, because drying during winter takes a very long time. Even though, I chucked it in the dryer, I felt it was still quite damp. So, I air-dried it for a day before I washed it again. Finally, I was able to use them. My first attempt – well, it failed. My lil one wee-ed and somehow it leaked right out. I wondered, did I not fastened it tight enough?

Anyway, I re-diapered him with another one….and sad to say, his wee leaked right out again. As I rinsed those diapers and chucked it into the machine for a wash, I wondered…what the heck was I doing wrong?

Well, I’m going to try again today and see if it leaks out. According to the website, the extra pre-washing will help in improving the absorbency of the diaper..so, I’m going to give it another go. I also purchased the hemp inserts to help with absorbing the wee….but I found it made it really bulky and I wasn’t sure if my lil guy was uncomfortable with all the bulk!

I got those cute “Blue Summer” and “Champagne” ones….together with a bright orange and dark blue. He honestly looks so cute wearing them.

As we’re right into winter, it seems like a perfect fit for the cold cold days, as it has many layers : microfiber terry, microfiber fleece, and a full layer of cotton velour! But come summer, I’m not so sure if it’ll be comfortable for him.

I’m definitely going to give it another try. I hope by re-washing them several times, they will become more absorbent. If not, I’m going to have to look for another brand.

I use BumGenious and initially they do leak as well. I think multiple washings really help. And make sure you fasten the tabs tightly. Cloth absorbs liquid much slower than the chemical filled dispos. So u need to have the diaper worn snugly or else it may flow out.

Good luck.
