A Craving…
Posted on January 23, 2008
One unusual craving I’ve been having lately, is the Taiwanese Fried Sauce Noodles. I think when I get sad, I look at food and seek its’ comfort. But since I have such high standards (Ha! Ha!), it can’t just be any food.
So, a few days back, I decided to make it by myself. I’ve been cooking alot ever since I arrived here… sign of depression? Hee hee..more like sign of kiam-siapness. It’s just too expensive to eat out. Plus, laden with MSG… I often come home, dying of thirst…(yes..also too kiamsiap to buy drink..since it’s so ex!)
So…here’s a combined version of the Taiwanese Fried Sauce Noodle. I googled it and found it on this delightful site, Lemon Almond…(who also makes mouth-watering cupcakes) and emailed a friend, who grew up eating it (her mom is a Taiwanese).
This is prob not the most authentic of recipes…but I had to add in the Shiitake Mushrooms in, because my MIL has the greatest knack in choosing the BESTEST and TASTIEST shiitake mushrooms in the world. THANK GOD Aussie customs approved them!!!!!!!!! Me thinks the mushrooms made a BIG difference.
The verdict : Absolutely deelish! I’m unashamedly in love with Shanghai noodles and the mushrooms were fantastic. The kids loved it…my eldest wasn’t even aware he was eating the Shiitake mushrooms. I had to substitute the cucumbers with green leafy vege, for my kids coz, they aren’t into cucumbers.
I’m putting this up in my proper recipe stash blog.
