Dear Ruth..

Actually, I wanted to write about this yesterday (it being Thursday and that’s when The Star has a “Dear Ruth Liew” column). See…this Ruth Liew fler is a child development expert, bla bla bla….oh! I’m not discounting her abilities or degrees. I just feel that sometimes her advices are a little too textbook and not realistic enough.

I mean, I have read books on how to discipline children…how to set boundaries.. how to give them the naughty chair/step/rug…whatever la. But sometimes, children aren’t the only ones predictable leh.

I think the mildest mannered parent can blow up into a monstrous screaming tyrant if the kids get out of hand or ” just do that one MORE time!”.

I mean, c’mon… parents feel harrassed as it is… have to pay the bills, have to deal with the lanjiao boss/wife/husband/sister/brother/mother/father/dog/cat/rat…

So… sometimes, Ms. Ruth here gives unrealistic advices. Like yesterday, a mom complained that her 3 year old daughter sucked her thumb..bla bla bla..similiar to my problem. Only big difference between her problem and mine? The age.

Her advice… Bla bla bla.. occupy her fingers with finger-based activities, giving her less time to suck those digits. HA? You kidding isn’t it?

My advice… CHOP THOSE DIGITS!
