‘Happy’

photohunters

In this week’s post…it’s Happy! Initially, I wanted to post up a really “HAPPY” photo of my 2 monkeys. But….after thinking it through, I hunted for this photo.

happy

Now, I know it doesn’t look like these kids look too happy having their dinner. But..obviously, there is a story behind it.

My mom visited her relatives in China earlier this year. These people are quite poor and rarely have much to eat. When they had her over as an honoured guest, they spared no thought in providing my mom a really lavish meal. They had like 3-4 families living in their lil home. So, there were plenty of kids. Boy..when it was meal time, my mom told me their faces lit up like Christmas lights and were incredibly happy. With the bountiful amount of food available, they just didn’t want to stop eating. It was pure joy watching them eat, my mom said. These kids, practically licked off every bit of rice and gravy from their bowls and serving plates.

As I looked through her photos of her trip, I too, was happy that for a brief moment of time, these kids got to enjoy themselves too. Plus..I’m incredibly happy and feel awfully blessed of where I am right now. Might not be much..but it’s enough.

I was invited to several village homes of my Chinese staff in China. They really go through great pains to prepare a meal for overseas guests. The food they prepared was triple what they would normally cook and lots of their speciality dishes. Even neighbours were roped in to help. They were so warm. It was truly a great moment of happiness for them and an honour for me.
