When I was single, I didn’t quite like eating by myself or watching movies by myself. It just felt like I was the saddest loser in the world, with no friends.
When I was married but childless, I didn’t mind it as much. I still didn’t enjoy it, but I didn’t mind it. I guess I knew I, at least had ONE friend. Mr.T
Now with kids, I really really cherish being by myself.
I love eating by myself. And I mean it. By myself.
I love the fact I don’t have to feed other monsters mouths first. I love the fact that I didn’t have to give up share my yummy fries.
I love the fact that I don’t have to shove all the food in my mouth, because someone is getting restless and wants to run away from the restaurant.
I love the fact that I can people-watch and stare at that cute ahbeng/ahmad/ramasamy, without being tsk-tsked.
I love the fact that I can order spicy food and savour it s-l-o-w-l-y. With mucus-drippin’ pleasure.
Yes, folks. I love eating by myself. I love strolling through a pasar malam by myself. I love not having time rush me home.
And..I don’t seem to care if other people look at me sympathetically. Because, I really enjoy the serenity of solidarity.
I had me a big bowl of the most scrumptious assam laksa, popiah, a iced longan and iced chrysanthenum tea…ALL BY MYSELF!
Where are the kids, you ask? Safely sleeping……….as usual.
I feel very contented and sleepy now. I think parents should put their kids to bed early. It really helps them recharge their batteries.
Ah well…yet another bad parenting tip!

Everyone needs a little time by themselves. Some need more, some less. I thought parents send their kids to bed early so that they can get enough rest? You send them to bed early so that you can have more time alone ah? Bad parent. Kidding. Hehe.
read last sentence…
it is a BAD parenting tip.. !
Hahahh… I understand how you feel, especially now that there are so many movies playing in the cinema I’d love to watch!!!
u said it!
Hey, everybody can do with a little private time. lol
Back in those days when my boy was small, I was constantly pressured. Lucky my mom was there to take care of him. Now, my boy is 20yrs old. I’ve paid my dues and now enjoy every minute of time to myself. Like the Loreal ad said.. “I’m worth it!” lol
yes u r!
I am a supporter of sending children to bed early. Now, my baby seems to sleep later. Less of me time.
I also send kids early so that I can have some me time. Hey put it so well about serenity of solidarity….totally agree with you.
err…i have a feeling this word ‘solidarity’… has a whole diff meaning la. shud it be the “serenity of solitairity”? oh..i don’t know..my england is not-so powder la.
Yes! I love time-by-myself too,and I dont get much of it…only when the kids are at school Even when I put them to bed early, I dont enjoy that time coz I usually fall asleep when they go to bed (even before them sometimes!). Time for yourelf is impt but the sad part is I dont get much of it. Mothers out there – if you can, have it. If not you may burn out like me.
burn baby burn…. eh..sorry..when I saw that word, I just had to say it. Ha ha… I did not mean it ah…
Haha. Yeah, we send Irfan to bed early too. I enjoy my “me” time when he’s asleep.
hee hee hee…. get more “me” time with Irwan yah…*winks*!
Actually, sending kids to bed early is GOOD parenting tip lah…not bad. Kids these days take up so much of a couple’s time, so once kids go to bed, at least there is some together time lah.
Also, Malaysian kids generally go to bed TOO late. Early bedtime is good! At least they have enough sleep!!!
I put my kids to bed at 8.00 pm..latest 8.30 pm on school nights.
ha ha ha..do these monkeys REALLY sleep? ha ha ha…
Yea, what’s so bad about sending the kids to bed early? Earlier the better!
Next time you go pasar malam, care if I join? LOL!
Wow….for sure! I’d so honoured!
I totally agree with you..
I so love shopping alone, eating alone, sleeping alone.. (no need to wake up middle of the night by some loud snore, or by a kid who wants to go to the toilet, or by a baby who wants her feed) Aaah.. I esp cherish the occasional business trip!
